Code of Ethics

  • We shall demonstrate in our behavior and languafe reaspect and appreciation for the unique vaue and human potential of each child.
  • We shall empower fmilies with information and resources so that they are informed consumers of services for their children.
  • Above all, we shall notharm children. We shall nor participate in the practices that are emotionally damaging, physically harmful, disrespectful, degrading, dangerous, exploitative, or intimidating to children.
  • To further the professional developmetnt of the field of early chldhood care and education and to trengthen its commitment to realizing its core values as reflected in this code.
There are some many more code that were very appealling to me that to write just these few was hard to choose. Both documents have a lot to offer for growth and leadership.

  1. Hello Laury - When I read "we shall not harm" on your posting, it reminded me of the doctors creed "we shall not harm the patient. Like you, I have also been impacted by reading the code of ethics. Our responsibility as early childhood professionals is a serious one. We are here to protect, not harm the most vulnerable people in our society - all children and their families. Thanks for sharing your insight.

  2. Hi Laury,
I agree that it was hard to pick a few areas of the Codes. We have an awesome task! Wouldn't it be great if families had a Code of Ethics? With #1 being "Do not harm the Children." I just got an idea for my next training or parent ed sub teaching!
    Thanks!
    Kristi

  4. Laury,

I feel the same way about empowering families. People who speak the loudest and know how to work with different systems don't love their children more than those who don't understand how it all works. Parents need education on these issues - no one is born knowing how to find information and resources. The more parents know the better off their children will be.
